Call for Papers: Special Issue of Information Retrieval
|
|
Call for Papers, Special Issue of Information Retrieval, a Springer Journal Information Retrieval for Social Media http://media.cs.tsinghua.edu.cn/ ... _SI_SocialMedia.htm With the arrival of the web 2.0 era, people are increasingly well connected on the internet through some social network sites, blogs, wikis and mashups. Some popular web sites such as Facebook, Flicker, YouTube and Windows Live provide virtual platforms for all users to share their ideas, photos, videos and music, and all users are free to post comments and communicate with each other. This environment presents clear challenges to conventional information retrieval research, which is based mainly on individual activities. Methods for retrieving information effectively and efficiently for social media have become an important research direction for modern information retrieval. In addition to information retrieval, data analysis in social environments has aroused considerable interest from some closely related research fields such as data mining, sentiment analysis and machine learning. More and more novel research directions (e.g., social computing, user behavior modeling and collective intelligence) have emerged to play important roles in modern information analysis. We feel that it is the right time to review and consolidate recent progress in information retrieval for social media, as well as charting the future research challenges. The main goal of this special issue is therefore to provide a forum for researchers in social information retrieval to review pressing needs, examine challenging research issues, and showcase the state-of-the-art research and development in the modern social environment. Topics of Interest The topics of interests of this special issue include, but not limited to, the followings: • Theoretical analysis on information retrieval for social media • Computational models for¬¬¬¬¬¬ retrieving social media information • Data creation and feature extraction for retrieving social media information • Efficient/Large Scale methods in social media information retrieval • Collective user behavior modeling • Temporal/dynamic information retrieval for social media • Mining and retrieval of evolving social events and sentiments • Empirical comparison between traditional information retrieval and social media information retrieval methods Submission Guidelines Manuscripts should be formatted using the template available from the journal homepage at http://www.springer.com/10791 and submitted to the journals review site at http://www.editorialmanager.com/inrt/ by selecting article type “SI: Socialized Information Retrieval”. Each submission will be reviewed by at least three reviewers. Submissions to the special issue should not be under consideration for any other journal or conference and will be evaluated according to the journal’s standard reviewing criteria and its appropriateness to the special issue. For more details, please refer to the "manuscript submission" section of the journal homepage.
