The following table gives the relative activities of the enzyme, β-galactosidase in cells with different genotypes at the lac operon in E. coli. The level of activity of the enzyme in wild type E. coli not carrying F’s was arbitrarily set at 100 and all other values are relative to the observed levels of activity in these wild-type bacteria. Based on the data given in the table for the first four genotypes, can you speculate the (approximate or relative) levels of enzyme activity that would be expected for the fifth genotype and support your answer?  |
