Chinese cultral officals say, the number of relics lost from Yuanmingyuan is at 1,500,000.It is believed that most of these relics are owned by some museums and persons. Actor and martial artist Jackie Chan first signed the proposal.The management bureacy of Yuanmingyuan issued the appleal at the 150 aniversary of Yuanmingyuan robbed. As a response, Valerie Bernard Lo, the spokesman of French Foreign Ministry, said,"robbing in Yuanmingyuan was a disaster", and he added they should make a cautious discussion with China about this issue. In the proposal, management bureacy of Yuanmingyuan appealed that the international soceciety should boycot the auction of relics robbed from Yuanmingyuan. Yuanmingyuan is the Summer Palace where the empeors of Qing Dynasty went to.During the 2nd Opium War,Yuanmingyuan was robbed entirely and burned by the aggresors, which is viewed as national humiliation given by the western powers. |
