Duologue(话剧) ----success Introduce: A Youngman man of humble origins came to New York from the Midwest to seek his fortune. He dreamed, in the American way, of becoming a millionaire .He tried his luck on Wall Street. He was diligent and shrewd and, when he had to be, devious. He put together the National Worldwide Universal deal and he did some things with an even beyond his dream: he made twelve million dollars. His wife-- an insatiable woman A police-- from the Securities and Exchange Commission came in his office. (A rainy day a young man and his wife sat around table having dinner) His wife  speak loudly) Look at the low house, the Crude food, ugly clothing, and heavy labor, I hate them. I’m looking forward to living with much money and I want everybody here to know you.Youngman man: (speaking confidently) dear, baby. You will get everything you want. I’m sure I will achieve it, just wait a moment. (The young man came to New York to seek his fortune. He worked hard! Two years later, he made more money.) (One sunny morning the young man talked with his wife about some things) Young man: (speaking confidently) If I had made twelve million dollars, Isn’t it grand? His wife…: No, it isn’t. You’re a nobody. Young man: But that’s impossible. I’m a rich person. We live in an era that celebrates rich people .Rich people are shown in the newspapers in the company of movie stars and famous novelists and distinguished dress designers. The names of the richest corporate raiders are known to every schoolboy. There are rich real estate sharks whose faces appear on the covers of glossy magazines. His wife…: Yours won’t. You’re a nobody. Young man: But I have twelve million dollars. His wife…: So do a lot of people .They’re nobodies, too. Young man: I could buy our way onto the committees of important charity balls, then we’d be mentioned in the columns. His wife…: Don’t kid yourself. The important committees are already filled up with people who are really rich .people like us would end up working on something like a dinner dance to benefit the American Psoriasis Foundation . Young man: But I own a co-op apartment on Fifth-avenue that’s worth two million dollars. His wife…: Two-million-dollar co-ops are a dime a dozen, so to speak. Young man: I have a stretch limousine. It’s twenty-one and half feet long. His wife…: Nobody famous has ever ridden in it. Henry Kissinger and Calvin Klein have never heard of you .You’re a nobody. Young man: (He was silent for a while ) Are you disappointed in me? His wife…: Of course I’m disappointed in you .When you asked me to marry you. You would surely amount to something. How was I to know that you’d turn out to be a nobody? Young man: (For a moment he looked defeated. Then he squared his shoulders and cleared his throat.)I’ll make them pay attention .I’ll buy a professional football team and argue a lot with the coach in public. Celebrities will join me to watch big games from the owner’s box. His wife…: You can’t buy a professional football team for twelve million dollars. Professional football teams cost big bucks. Young man: Then I’ll buy a magazine and appoint myself chief columnist. A tiny but exceedingly flattering picture of me will run next to my column every week. The owners of professions football teams will invite me to watch big games from the owner’s box. His wife…: You might be able to buy one of those weekly-shopper throwaways for twelve million dollars ,but not a real magazine. You can’t buy a real magazine for chicken feed. Young man: Is that what you call what we have? Is twelve million dollars chicken feed? His wife…: It’s not big bucks. What can I tell you? Young man: But that’s not fair. I’m a young man of humble origins who made twelve million dollars. I succeeded even beyond my dream. His wife…: Some of those things you did with the electronics acquisition probably weren’t fair either. Fair isn’t being measured these days. What they measure is money. Young man: Then I’ll get more money. I’m going to go back to Wall Street and make fifty million dollars. (After that day, the young man decided to earn more money by any kind of means in order to prove him to be a famous person. One day a police from the Securities and Exchange Commission came in his office.) A police : I arrested you for having committed insider-trading violations in the electronics acquisition. (The young man was taken away from his office in handcuffs. He was put in the jail A long article in the morning paper used him as an example of a new breed of Wall Street traders who were the victims of their own greed, probably because of their humble origins. Later, His friends and associates avoided him. Only his wife stuck by him.) (His wife came the jail and saw him with newspaper in her hand) His wife smile in her face) Oh, my dear! You are successful now! For someone with only twelve million dollars, you’re getting to be pretty well know |
