Dear This is my paoer for "Many governments and businesses have banned smoking in public places. This is a good idea. But it also takes away freedom" Write an article for the same newspaper to clarify your own points of view towards this issue. You should use your own ideas, knowledge or experience to generate support for your argument and include an example. You should write no less than 250 words. "No Smoking in the Public Places" Gives most of us Freedom In many public places, we usually see "No smoking" notice. This is a good idea. It gives most of us freedom, although it may take away freedom of a few of people who have a habit of smoking. Today, it is difficult for people to see the link between their own behaviours and their diseases, for example, many people buy cigarettes in the shops or stores just near a hospital. While they may see a man died for a lung cancer, or may see someone who has lungs disease was sent to the hospital. Nowadays, most of the leading causes of death are clearly due to the way we behave. All of us know "smoking is danger for your health "on every cover of cigarette package. A few of people have habits of smoking especially in the public places. Because there are many people in the public places, such as in the railway station, in the meeting room, and so on. Suppose a man smoke in this place, the others have to absorb the smoking out of his mouth. The man has really freedom. But the others are taken away freedom by the man. Perhaps the more serious problems are the infants who were carry on by their mothers waiting for a train, meanwhile some one is smoking nearby, and how could the infants has the freedom of having a breath of fresh air? In my opinion, the freedom is relative, we should pay more attention to the freedom of the most people, and meanwhile we must restrict the freedom which some people possess, or take away the freedom that has a pernicious influence on most of us. So "many government and businesses have banned smoking in public places, this is a good idea" it gives most of us freedom, although it takes away few people's freedom of smoking! Michael |
