Title: Postdoctoral Fellows Position in FDA Imaging Research Laboratory Job Number: 4008072 Date Posted: 09/23/2010 Application Deadline: 10/22/2010 Job Description A postdoctoral fellowship position is open within the Division of Imaging and Applied Mathematics, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, FDA. The Fellow will collaborate with DIAM staff in the investigation of methods for the quantitative evaluation of image features from CT data sets. This research effort is intimately related to the effort by FDA¡¯s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) to examine the use of imaging data as surrogate markers related to the safety and effectiveness of drug therapy. In pursuit of these goals DIAM has developed a research initiative toward the development of robust quantitative estimators and acquisition techniques for CT data as well as strategies to assess the precision and accuracy of these estimators. This effort will require the development of an understanding of the morphology of lesions and the surrounding anatomy, development of appropriate basis functions and models to characterize lesion properties of interest, methods for simulating the CT image-formation process with realistic lesions and anatomy, characterization of the statistical properties of the subsequent images, and estimation of parameters based on the resulting images that are useful for the quantitative task of interest. While the Fellow¡¯s work will initially be expected to be oriented toward CT imaging, a longer-term goal of the overall effort is the application of similar methods to other imaging systems such as MRI and PET. The Fellow will become conversant with the device-approval process in CDRH and CDER¡¯s qualification process for imaging biomarker use in drug trials through exposure to computer assist device submissions and qualification applications. The Fellow will gain expertise in clinical trials methodology. The applicant will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including biomedical and electrical engineers, imaging scientists, mathematicians, and physicists. Candidates should have a background in biomedical engineering, electrical (systems) engineering, imaging science, mathematics, physics, or a relevant field of study. Experience in mathematical modeling, imaging, and Monte Carlo simulation would be welcome. The position is funded for two years, with potential for renewal based on the availability of funds. Applications, including a CV and Statement of Research Interests, should be submitted via email by October 22, 2010 to: Nicholas Petrick, Ph.D. FDA/CDRH/OSEL 301-796-2563 nicholas.petrick@fda.hhs.gov Please use the following subject line in any correspondence related to this position: ¡°Quantitative Imaging Postdoctoral Fellowship¡± Contact: Nicholas Petrick CDRH/OSEL US FDA Silver Spring, MD United States Phone: 301-796-2563 Email: nicholas.petrickfda.hhs.gov |
