Five big free scenic sights in China

West Lake, Hangzhou, Zhejiang
The West Lake scenic area has been open free since 2002. In 2010, another eight free scenic sights were also opened to visitors. In October, the 12th West Lake International Expo Hangzhou will be held in the West Lake scenic area. By then, a big fireworks party will be provided for visitors.
→Fayun ancient village
If you do not like crowds or noise in the major scenic area in the West Lake, Fayun ancient village is another choice. Here is a new path to avoid traffic. Go west at Linyin Temple until you reach the west wall of Linyin Temple. The Fayun ancient village (or Outer Tea Village) lies there quietly. It is perhaps the best-preserved mountain village in Hangzhou. There are 55 buildings in the village. The earth walls and the traditional style of houses are all demonstrations of the village's old history.
There are two ways to enter the village. One is from Linyin Mountain gate, where the famous scenic sites such as Feilai Peak, Linyin Temple and Yonfu Temple are located. The other free entrance is found at Zhongfa Road. Visitors can go west along Meilin North Road until they reach Xia Tian Zhu and Zhong Tian Zhu. The Zhongfa Road is just located between Xia Tian Zhu and Zhong Tian Zhu.
Visitors who plan to visit Fayun ancient village are suggested to bring some food and drinks.

Juzizhou Island, Changsha, Hunan
Since April, 2009, Changsha Juzizhou Island has been open free to visitors. Located in the middle of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, Juzizhou Island is one of the most famous scenic sights in Hunan Province. It is a beautiful park with picturesque pavilions and corridors, full of Hunan flavor.
Besides, from June 1, 2010, all the city parks in Changsha have become free to visit, including Yuelu Mountain, Nanjiao Park, Tianxin Pavilion scenic sight, Xiaoyuan Park, Wangling Park, Zifeng Park and Guihua Park.

Jinji Lake, Suzhou, Jiangsu
Covering an area of 10 square kilometers, Jinji Lake boasts blue sky, green rippling waters, forest and lawns. The scenic area consists of the Urban Square, Lakeshore Avenue, Linglong Bay, Cultural Waterside Corridor, Jinji Peninsular and Boxin Isle. It gained the reputation as new, modern tourist attraction besides the classical gardens in Suzhou.

Fenghuang Ancient Town, Hunan
Located in Xiangxi Prefecture, Hunan Province, Fenghuang county is a well-preserved ancient town that harbors unique ethnic languages, customs, arts as well as many distinctive architectural remains of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties'styles. The town is placed in a mountain setting, incorporating the natural flow of water into city layout. Over half of the city's population belongs to the Miao or Tujia minorities.
Not every scenic sight in the ancient town is free. Visitors have to pay when visiting the Former House of Shen Congwen and the Former House of Xiong Xiling.

Beihai Silver Beach, Guangxi
Lying on the coastlines in the suburb south of Beihai city, the Beihai Silver Beach is one of the ideal beach holiday resorts in China. It is famous for fine and white sand, warm and clean water and gentle waves. The beach glistens in the sunshine, hence the name "Silver Beach".
Water sports and beach games like wind surfing, yachting, motor boating, beach volleyball and football are some of the games and funs visitors get to enjoy with at this beach resort. At certain time of the year, ethnic cultural dance shows were held at this holiday resort. Each year thousands of fun and sun seeking tourists are attracted to Beihai Silver Beach.
