Every September and October, as if appointed, the poplar trees dedicate the dazzling showy gold in the fall. At present, the fall has arrived in China for some time. The West China welcomes its most beautiful season, especially the golden poplar trees. But their period for viewing only lasts no more than a half month. So quickly pack your stuff and go for poplars!

Ejinaqi, Inner Mongolia
Feature: the home of the thickest and oldest poplar tree in China
Best time to visit: around October
Located in Alashan, Inner Mongolia, Ejinaqi is one of the only three extensive poplar woods in the world. Tourists and photographers are enthralled by its amazing autumn scene. There is a famous saying that goes like this: "Without going to Ejinaqi, you will not know the mighty of the oasis; without going to Ejinaqi, you will not know the magic of poplar trees".
The poplar trees in Ejinaqi are mainly distributed along Yidaoqiao to Badaoqiao. Visitors are suggested to spend two days trekking from Yidaoqiao to Badaoqiao. Beautiful pictures come into view one after another. In the sunlight, the golden poplar trees make a sharp contrast to the blue sky, gorgeous and bright. When reaching the Badaqiao Village, visitors can admire the view of Badain Jaran Desert, the most beautiful desert praised by the National Geographic.
The biggest, thickest and oldest poplar tree in China is found in Juyan Oasis (or Ejina Oasis). The legend says it is the only undamaged after burned by Ejina Torgout people more than 300 years ago. Therefore, the Torgout people believed the tree was blessed by God, so they regarded it as the holy tree. It measures 27.5 meters tall and the diameter of the trunk is 6.5 meters. Survived from several centuries, it remains still green and straight.
Travel tips:
If self drive to Ejina, please prepare new tyres for your car and invite the experienced drivers. Visitors can take part in the photograph groups organized by local travel agencies. The go-anywhere vehicle can take visitors across the Badain Jaran Desert.
Advance booking the hotel is required. The local delicacies include mutton eaten with hands, braised camel meat and planed noodles.

Germu, Qinghai
Feature: the world's highest in altitude
Best time to visit: Oct.5 to the middle of October
The poplar trees growing in the northwest of Alton Qu Ke grassland in Germu, Qinghai make up the only poplar forest in the province and the world's highest one in terms of altitude.
The poplar trees are growing tenaciously in the desert, accompanied with a variety of desert plants such as bulrush, rose willow and camel thorn. Like a green wall, they effectively stop the expansion of the desert. The forest covers a large area but not crowded together. The dry trunks appear in many eye-striking shapes like dragons, lids or a brave man stands fast in the desert. It is amazing that the leaves of the poplar trees change as the tree grows. The small ones like willow leaves, the large ones like aspen leaves and the old ones like phoenix tree leaves.
Travel tips:
Visitors have to drive or hire a car to Germu. Hiring a Xiali Car usually costs 50 yuan to 60 yuan for a round trip. There are two ways to enter the scenic area. The first is to go southwest from the scenic sign. The second is to keep driving forward about three kilometers and go south.

Luntai county, Tarim, Xinjiang
Feature: the only desert poplar park in the world
Best time to visit: Oct.20 to early Nov.
The only desert poplar park in the world is located 70 kilometers to the desert road in Luntai county, Tarim, Xinjiang. It is also the best location to view the poplar trees in Xinjiang.
The park combines scenic sights of the Tahei River, poplar trees and desert into one. It is the largest, oldest, most complete poplar tree protection area. There is a 17-kilometer long sightseeing area. In autumn, visitors can enjoy the various shapes of poplar trees here. In the entertainment zone, a railway links some big lakes in the forest. Visitors can take the sightseeing train to travel around.
Travel tips:
Visitors are suggested to climb the 24-meter tall watching tower to have a bird's view of the poplar park. Around the park, there are hotels, canteens and reception houses. Visitors can go there for bed and board.

Mulei county, Xinjiang
Feature: the oldest poplar trees in the world
Best time to visit: Oct.20 to early Nov.
The oldest poplar forest in the world lies in the Mulei county to the east of Gurbantunggut Desert, Xinjiang. It is well known to the world for thousands of postures and original condition of poplar trees. According to the research, this piece of poplar trees has a history of 65 million years. The "ancestral tree" has a diameter of 3.1 meters. It is regarded as the "king of the poplar" in the world. Besides, it still keeps its original state without development. Like an art palace, all sorts of strange shaped poplar trees bring visitors endless surprise.
Travel tips:
It takes about five hours from Urumqi to Mulei poplar forest. Visitors can lodge in different standards around the scenic area. The local gourmet includes Xinjiang big plate of braised chicken, mutton eaten with hands, milk tea and so on.

I admire the strong of HuYangShu,
they grow in bad environment and need little water, however their life span are very long.
They are attractive for me. And hope one day I can go there to have a good look of them.
