It is really a shortcut. Fang HongJian who is a person in Qian Zhoushu's novel, Fortress Besieged (in PinYin is Wei Cheng) bought a degree certificate. It was reported recently that some people who are well known bought PhD certificates from a university called West Pacific University.This evil behaviour has fiercely been criticized. On the other hand, if you are so good at a certain subject that the teacher or adminitrative committee think you do not need to learn a course after a strict evaluation. I think this news is pretty good. It is rather rare to have so good luck, especially in the stage of postgraduate learning. As a matter of fact, learn something by youself has become the main way to get knowledge when you grew up. From the point of view, getting the permission of not attending a course just means you have one exam less than other classmates in your class. That is all.
