[交流] The different perspective between different people and different nations~

Last week, during the English class,  my foreign teacher post us a topic about perspective.
He said the perspectives of different nations were different. Just like this, when look at a map, a Chinese may find China quickly and believe China is the center of the world. While a American may find America quickly and think Ameica to be the center of the world.
Chinese may think America is in the west, and the American must think China is in the East. But to the people living in the North Pole, there are no nations even north, all they have is south.

Even the barking of the dog all over the world sounds different. In China it sounds like "wang wang", but in America it sounds like "Ruff Ruff". And the duck, in China "ga ga", while in America "quack quack". The frog in China sounds like "gua gua", while it sounds like "ribbit ribbit" in America. The sheep in China "mian mian ", it is "bah bah " in America. ........
That is amazing, because the animals don't have language, the sounds they make are all the same across the world. The people with different languages sound this voice as different voice.

Why don't we see the world map like this?

Even in China, the people in the north and south have different perspectives.

LZ's post is interesting!

Relativism is a difficult thing for many people to learn, it is unfortunate that most people actually never break out of their self-centered mindset.  However, I think this type of mindset also has a very important function of an individual, as it helps a person create an identity for themselves.  One knows themselves based on how they view the world and where they fit in it.

Also, this is a linguistic challenge, as how we communicate is often based on implicit assumptions. By having a shared mentality with out community it makes communication that much more simpler.

The problem, however, is that as the world becomes smaller, and nations/cultures start to interact/merge, thus these implicit assumptions are wrong or strange.  This is the phenomena of globalization, as the progress is more rapid than how culture/traditions/language habits changes.

Thus it is important for us to try to be aware that we exists in a family, in a culture, a citizen of a nation, but also part of a global community.  This transition is already happening, and I am optimistic that relativism, the phenomenon that LZ points out, will gradually be altered by increased communication and understanding among people that have been historically separated by geographic, political, and language barriers.
