Do we still need training of handwriting in Internet age? ÒÑÓÐ9È˲ÎÓë
| The developing society has been all the time accompanied by the evolution of our ever-valued traditions. The vogue might be a window on this transformation. Cell phone and online communications have now been driving the globe in storm and merit the epitome of high-tech vogue in the Internet age. Obviously, the wireless connection and broadband access have enormously updated our communication style, which, in the old days, mainly depend on the hand-written letters and messengers. With the help of digital technology and network covering the whole globe, people in all corners of the world can watch the live broadcast of the Olympic game and the breaking news could spread out worldwide in a few seconds. It is really hard to imagine what we would be like if we are deprived of such convenience. However, the flip side of the coin is that our writing skill had been severely dented when bearing the brunt of high-tech wave. Take my son for an example, he is now a pupil cramming for his all sorts of tests. Once when I checking his composition, I lost temper because I could hardly tell the tadpole-shaped Chinese characters he had written in the notebook. But my son had his own grievance. He had to do so much homework assigned by his teachers and no time left for him to practice handwriting. I had to refrain from my anger and try hard to convince him that handwriting skill is an important caliber for a talent. But to my dismay, my son said in a casual manner that handwriting skill is useless in information society and he can write by typing the keyboard. His answer got me into deep consideration: Do we still need the traditional writing skill in the computer-dominated world? Should the training of such skill take step back in our kids¡¯ elementary education curriculum? My friends, what is your take on this issue? |

I want to emphasize the importance of Chinese characters, so I used Chinese.![]() I am still very worried about the possible disappearance of handwriting in 100 years. ![]() [ Last edited by xia_chong on 2010-5-26 at 08:41 ] |

| I hope there would not be one day that we can only see handrighting in the museum, it is our culture and should not blow over from our life. we should value it. |
