【Leisure chat】Beijing Underground 已有9人参与

In cities across the US , there is this phenomenon of looking for something special, like restaurants, stores, museums or parks, that few know about. For example: In Los Angeles, they have a website called "LA Underground" and New York, they have a similar type of website. There is also a site called "Yelp" that is similar to China's "Dianping." So my questions is: How does one find the hidden gems in Chinese cities? Is there a collection or lists/reviews? Or do you have to rely on the advice of friends in China? Example: I have found that the advice of local friends for foreigners tends to be rather... thoughtless. For example, if a foriegner wants to eat Peking duck, where would a Chinese person tell them to go? "Quanjude, of course!" most would say. The fact of the matter is, that Quanjude, and the current Quanjude are just not the same thing anymore. There are better/tasties/cheaper/more "authentic" experiences for enjoying Peking duck other than Quanjude. So, as a n expert in Chinese culture, would you please share with me resources where I can enjoy a more laobaixing, yet modern China? http://blakeanthony.blog.sohu.com |

I was just looking for some insights from this clever community. Let's try to keep this thread in English. As you may have noticed, my Chinese is very limited, so if you are willing to practice your English while you are posting, I think it would not just help us understand each other, but benefit the community as well.
