Aluminum-containing three-dimensional ordered macroporous lithium manganese oxide LiAlMnO4 was prepared by filling the mixture solution of lithium nitrate, aluminum nitrate and manganese acetate in the PMMA colloidal crystal template. The corresponding novel lithium ion-sieve HAlMnO4 was obtained after treatment with diluted hydrochloric acid. The experiment showed that the pore size and pore wall thickness was 240 nm and 52 nm, respectively and the x-ray diffraction peaks belonged to pure spinel. In the 0.1 M HCl solution, the removal rate of lithium ion was above 97% and the solution loss of manganese and aluminum was only 0.23% and 0.45%, respectively, due to the substitution of manganese (III) by aluminum. The maximum adsorption of lithium ion was 45.5 mg/g, achieving 96.3% of the theoretical adsorption of HAlMnO4. Meanwhile, the adsorption rate of lithium ion was significantly accelerated and the adsorbent had a very high selectivity on Li+ in the solution where Na+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ were also present.
