In advanced English class, our teacher classified words, phrases and even sentences into two categories, Formal English containing legal, political, business, and academic paper, and Unformal English such as colloquial and slang. Personally, we should distinguish these two types of English because people learn English for different reasons. And for a great number of investigators, the reason is for writing research paper.
