The main result is based on ***which is interpreted as providing an evidence for a ***l structure. While the overall experimental work is probably valuable I have strong objections on the data presentation, interpretation, discussion and conclusions and I cannot recommend publication of the present manuscript. Regarding the***analysis the authors ***.This is rather obvious and implicit in eq.(5),so extensive presentation of tabulated and plotted data for Dcd is unjustified. It must be 3 within numerical uncertainties.Regarding the region***, which displays an exponent intermediate between 2 and 3,it is limited to a narrow distance region between the first two peaks of the g(r),so,referring this exponent as a ***completely misleading. These fluids are homogeneous and a sub-3 power law behavior in this narrow region only reflects the existence of a minimum in the g(r)after the first neighborpeak. The increasing value of ***with T just reflects the tendency of any structure correlation to wash out with temperature. The authors claim the existence of ***with T. The first evidence comes from Fig.4 and 5,but the parameter rc is biased by its definition(eq.(6)).It is clear that upon increasing T the condition(6)(which involves g(r)and not the envelope of the oscillating part)will jump by an integer number of half oscillations. This analysis should be performed with an exponential fitting of the oscillation amplitude of g(r)-1.The”jumps”displayed by the***data of Fig.11 and 12 are within the 5%error stated in Sec.2.3. The viscosity data for the***alloy Fig.13 display a 30% decrease between 200 and 300 C,but the T range is di?erent from the change in the exponent shown in Fig.9. On the basis of these consideration I find all the claims for discontinuous changes with T and all the proposed models rather speculative. For all the above reasons this paper should be rejected. The authors are however encouraged to perform a proper analysis of their data using using unbiased parameters like an exponential correlation length. The short range order may be characterized by a power law exponent but the claim for a fractal order is not appropriate.Looking for a correlation between short range order and viscosity is reasonable but it should not be biased by the search for discontinuous changes.Usage of the English language and scientific terminology should be improved:in Sec.2.2 and 3.1 the RDF is often referred to as”Radical distribution function”instead of”Radial”.Meaningless terms like”catamaran correlation”at pag.6 or”European Space”at pag.11,just to mention a few cases, are used. A completely rewritten paper may be considered for publication but other Journals in condensed matter physics are probably a better target. [ Last edited by parklyn on 2010-4-9 at 10:03 ] |
