My cousin phoned me yesterday. She is a sophomore of Suzhou University. She felt so disheartened and crushed when we came to talk about learning English. As a regular college student, she should pass the College English Test (CET4 or CET6) before the graduation. My cousin took the CET4 3 times; however, she has not passed the CET4.How terrible it is! So she called me for some advice! Actually, I’m not good at learning English. Although I have passed the CET4, CET6 and the English Test for Graduate Admission Examination, I cannot communicate with others freely in English. My cousin said that’s not the point, because she aims to get a good job with a Certificatehas in English rather than to communication. Maybe, most of Chinese student harbor the idea. I think it is a serious problem for Chinese education. I told my cousin that she has to enlarge her vocabulary . In my opinion, you should understand the parts before you get the whole because English is not our native language. My cousin asked me to tell her how to memorize so many words? I didn’t like to learn English when I was an undergraduate. I do have passed the CET4 and CET6, but it only be by the skin of my teeth. And I spent no more than 1-month on memorizing English words and phases before I prepare the Graduate Admission Examination. It’s terrible to face up to thousands of words. It's in human nature to be lazy. As a proverb goes that No thing is difficult to a man who wills. I must pour 6000 words in my head if I want to pass the Graduate Admission Examination of China. Before I tell you how I got it, I want to tell you a secret that I can memorize 10000 words in a month. Certainly,I laid the foundations in the past time, but I didn’t know them before I review them. Actually, there are many interesting stories and connection among most of words. I don’t like to memorize the words with a vocabulary handbook. I am interested in reading English newspapers and magazines.It’s not difficult to found many English websites on the internet. I would note not only the direct new word but also the relevant words on a notebook when I encounter a new word. I’d like to spend no more than 20 minutes to review the words I noted in my notebook, I do not compel myself to memorize them but just read them. It is a fantastic sensation. You would find out you do have remembered them. However, you must stick to it for several weeks before the sensation turning up. You will soon get to like study English, it is not a miracle at all. | Well, I 've met several excellent English learners, some of them just did the same way as you do. I think it might be better if you have a look on vocabulary book. The important thing is , you have to force yourself interested in English so that you can get started if you hated it from the beginning. Though cramming vocabulary into your mind works for an exam, to most people, it is suffering. |

| Although I am not excellent in using the English in our daily lives, a amount of vacabulay have taken up my brain. I agree on帅博士's idea. Learning English in our daily lives may be more easier than forcing us to remmenber the new words from the vocabulay book. In addition ,learning the language is just a process of repeating. Because human's brains are always forgeting things. |
