在金属中，晶粒越细，晶界比例越大，当位错运动到晶界时，受到较大的钉扎作用，从而使材料的抗拉强度升高。与此同时，因为晶粒尺寸小，形变时受晶界影响的区域相对增大，晶粒内部和晶界附近的形变量相差就比较小，晶粒形变最大的特点是其不均匀性，晶粒越细，形变的不均匀性便越小，开裂的机会也随之减小，因此在断裂之前可承受的形变量也就越大。

At the same time, because the size of grain is so small, boundary region, which is influenced by the grain, will relatively increase when the deformation happens, the shape variables difference of the grain insides and the grain boundaries within the vicinity will be relatively small.The biggest character of the grain deformation is its inhomogeneity. The thinner the crystal is, the smaller the deformation of the heterogeneous nature is, and fhe chances of cracking will also decrease, therefore, the deformation which can withstand before breaking will become greater.
