This pin normally runs with the slot out of the polymer flow(the closed position). It will normally correct a heavy edge flow for a particular channel when the slot is exposed to that flow channel. For heavy center flow, a pin must be profiled to divert material from the center to the edges. To determine the profiling required , it is necessary to procure an actual profile of the sheet layering to determine the degree and locations of non-uniformity.  
     The normal method of profiling is to use the standard slot depth of .168'' and to make adjustments to the length of the slot. The fine turning of the pin is done empirically by cutting and testing, then recutting if necessary. Pins can normally be changed out in less than five minutes.
     It is recommended that the pins either be fully in the flow(the open position) or fully out of the flow(the closed off position). For materials which are stable and will not degrade and ''flake off'' the pin can be rotated less than 180°to produce intermediate clearance depths. This works through a certain angular rotation of approximately 55°.
