http://www3.interscience.wiley.c ... ome/ForAuthors.html Instructions To Authors Polymer Keyword Catalog Wiley's Journal Styles and EndNote 1. In order to speed the editorial evaluation process and reduce times from submission to publication, the Journal of Applied Polymer Science requires web-based submission and peer review. Please note that hard copy manuscripts will no longer be accepted. To submit your manuscript online, please: * Point your browser to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/app . * To login, enter your User ID and Password into the boxes provided, then click "Log In." If you are unsure about whether or not you have an account, or have forgotten your password, enter your e-mail address into the "Password Help" section to the right of the screen. If you do not have an account, click on the "Create Account" Link at the top right of the screen. Subsequently, to monitor the progress of your manuscript throughout the review process, just login periodically and check your Author Center. * Let the system guide you through the 7-step submission process. Please be sure to pay special attention to instructions given at the top of each page. * Please note: This journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents at this time. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document to an older (.doc) file type. You will be restricted to uploading the following file types for your text: .rtf, .doc, and for your figures, you will be restricted to file types .tif and .eps. OTHER FILE TYPES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION PURPOSES. The Journal requires separate files for your text, tables, and graphical material. If you submit non-conforming material, this may slow review and publication. * All submissions are kept strictly confidential. Online help is available to you at all times during the process at support@scholarone.com . You are also able to exit and re-enter the process at any stage before finally "submitting" your work. 2. The Editors desire to receive manuscripts based on original research in any phase of the chemistry or physics of large molecules which have a practical applicability, including analysis and characterization of polymers. It is the preference of the Editors that papers be published in the English language. The author is responsible for the technical aspect of the manuscript, which could be obscured by faulty English. Note: Manuscripts that are returned by authors six months after the request for revision from the Editor will be considered as new submissions. 3. Authors should supply up to five (5) keywords or phrases which best characterize the manuscript. To facilitate online searching, the editors of the Wiley polymer journals have complied a common keyword catalog, available in the first issue of every year and at http://www.interscience.wiley.com/jpages/0021-8995/keyword.pdf . At least three of the maximum of five keywords assigned to an article must come from this list. 4. A short synopsis (maximum length 200 words) of the main contributions in the paper is required. This synopsis should be carefully prepared, for it is automatically the source of most abstracts. A short summary of the whole paper, not the conclusions alone, should form the synopsis. 5. The paper should be reasonably subdivided into sections and, if necessary, subsections. Please refer to any issue of this journal for examples. 6. The nomenclature sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is requested for chemical compounds. Chemical bonds should be correctly placed, and double bonds clearly indicated. Valence is to be indicated by superscript plus and minus signs. The use of SI units is preferred. 7. References. Wiley's Journal Styles Are Now in EndNote EndNote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote's bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and then instantly output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style. Download Reference Style for this Journal: If you already use EndNote, you can download the reference style for this journal. How to Order: To learn more about EndNote, or to purchase your own copy, click here . Technical Support: If you need assistance using EndNote, contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com , or visit www.endnote.com/support . The references should be numbered consecutively in the order of their appearance and should be complete, including authors' initials and--for unpublished lectures or symposia--the title of the paper, the date, and the name of the sponsoring society. Please compile references at the end of the manuscript. Abbreviations of journal titles should conform to the practices of Chemical Abstracts. Examples: Olabisi, O.; Robeson, L. M.; Shaw, M. T. Polymer-Polymer Miscibility; Academic Press: New York, 1979. Guilbault, G. G.; Chen, R. F.; Govindjee; Papageorgiou, G.; Rabinowitch, E.; Wehry, E. L. In Practical Fluorescence, Guilbault, G. G., Ed.; Marcel Dekker: New York, 1973, Chap. 1. Hegazy, E. A.; Dessouki, A. M.; El-Assy, N. B.; El-Sawy, N. M.; El-Ghaffar, M. A. A. J Appl Polym Sci 1992, 30, 1969. 8. Please supply numbers and titles for all tables. All table columns should have an explanatory heading. 9. Figures . Scaling, cropping, and rotating should be performed in the originating application. We recommend Adobe Photoshop for generating pixel-based graphics and either Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia's Freehand for generating vector-based graphics. Black and white (B/W) line art is either pixel based (typically generated by scanning the image) or vector based (generated using a drawing program such as Freehand or Illustrator). Pixel-based artwork should be supplied in TIFF format and at a resolution of not less than 1,000 dots per square inch (dpi). Vector-based artwork should be supplied as EPS files. B/W halftones should be supplied in TIFF format. The halftone should be provided at the proper resolution. The finished resolution should be at least 300 dpi. Color artwork should be provided as an EPS or TIFF file. Files should be converted from RGB to CMYK. The finished resolution should be at least 300 dpi.Note that these file formats are not acceptable for printing: JPG, GIF, ONG, PCX, PNG, XBM, Word, and Excel. We recommend creating your graphics in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Freehand and importing them into your page applications as TIFFs with all fonts included. Do not scan figures as JPEGs and convert to TIFFs. If in doubt about the preparation of illustrations suitable for reproduction, please consult one of the Production Editors (contact information appears at the end of these instructions). Poor quality artwork will lead to delay in publication. Color illustrations. All color figures will be reproduced in full color in the online edition of the journal at no cost to authors. Authors are requested to pay the cost of reproducing color figures in print. Authors are encouraged to submit color illustrations that highlight the text and convey essential scientific information. For best reproduction, bright, clear colors should be used. Dark colors against a dark background do not reproduce well; please place your color images against a white background wherever possible. Please contact Cecilia Banzon at 201-748-8889/ APPJournal@wiley.com for further information. To ensure that your digital graphics are suitable for print purposes, please go to Rapid Inspector TM at http://rapidinspector.cadmus.com/zwi/index.jsp . This free, stand-alone software application will help you to inspect and verify illustrations right on your computer. 10. Please supply legends for all figures and compile these on a separate sheet. 11. Electronic Proofing. In order to expedite the publication and online posting of articles in Wiley InterScience, the Journal of Applied Polymer Science now offers electronic proofing. Corresponding authors will be sent page proofs (and paperwork, such as reprint order forms) in pdf format via e-mail. Please follow the instructions in the e-mail; contact names and numbers are given for questions, problems, or if an author wishes to receive a paper proof. A fax cover form with the Production Editor’s information is also provided for authors to fax their corrections. 12. Reprints can be ordered and purchased by filling out the form attached to the proof. This journal does not carry a page charge for contribution. 13. Copyright. No article can be published unless accompanied by a signed publication agreement, which serves as a transfer of copyright from author to publisher. A publication agreement may be obtained from the editor or the publisher. A copy of the publication agreement appears in most issues of the journal. Only original papers will be accepted and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce material that has appeared in another publication. A copy of that agreement, executed and signed by the author, is now required with each manuscript submission. A manuscript cannot be accepted for publication without the signed agreement. (If the article is a "work made for hire," the agreement must be signed by the employer.) 14. Note to NIH Grantees. Pursuant to NIH mandate, Wiley-Blackwell will post the accepted version of contributions authored by NIH grant-holders to PubMed Central upon acceptance. This accepted version will be made publicly available 12 months after publication. For further information, see www.wiley.com/go/nihmandate . |
