General comments.

This paper contains some interesting observations but is in my opinion incomplete without some measurements of properties. Thus much of the introduction is taken up by the topic of properties and it is not clear to me that there is any point in simply reporting microstructural development during sintering unless these are coupled with property measurements. The low relative densities do not suggest that the properties will be good. I would suggest therefore that the paper be rejected and the authors asked to relate their processing to properties so that some useful conclusions can be drawn. Even if they are bad properties and the factors which limit them are understood that could be a useful paper, but clearly what should be identified is a process-route which gives optimum properties.

Some detailed comments.

The figure legends to the SEM images should specify which electrons have been used (back scatter or secondary). This is specified in the experimental section but a figure legend should be comprehensive so that the reader does not have to search through the text to interpret the figure.

Much of the discussion and conclusions simply states the obvious; for example the conclusions include the following:
