Besides scientific activities in the development of new or improved measuring methods and analytical separation techniques as well as spectroscopy and spectrometric equipment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the ar-eas of spectroscopic methods and analytical contributions to solving problems in the fields of materials and life sciences. For our Department of Material- and Interface Analytics in Berlin, ISAS invites applications for a position of a PhD student (Physics) The PhD student will work in the highly motivating atmosphere of an interdisciplinary team. Aim of the work is characterisation of interfaces in interaction with bio-molecules and layered structures of functional organic materials. Focus of the ex-perimental work will be the use of Infrared Synchrotron Spectroscopy (Ellipsometry, Reflection Absorption Spectroscopy). Non-residents who apply for this job will receive help from the institute to find ac-commodation. Department Berlin Albert-Einstein-Straße 9 12489 Berlin 第二个： The Glycoproteomics Group at the Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS, Dortmund) currently seeks for applicants for a PhD position in Glycoproteomics (60% TVÖD13, for up to 3 years) within the International Leibniz Graduate School “Systems Biology Lab on a Chip” (S–BLOC;www.sbloc.org). S-BLOC is a cooperation between the Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS,www.isas.de), the department of Systemic Cell Biology of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology and the departments of Chemical Biotechnology and Micro Structure Technology at the Technische Universität Dortmund. This interdisciplinary environment gives ideal prospects to develop novel cell analysis methods and procedures for systems biology based on lab on a chip technology as well as the possibility to acquire comprehensive knowledge of the various scientific and technological fields. In more detail, the applicant’s work will focus on the development and miniaturisation of analysis methods for glycosylations, which are carbohydrate-based ost-translational modifications to proteins. Having a major influence on cell-cell interactions, protein structure, stability and activity, the analysis of this complex modification form is still a major challenge to analytical research due to its enormous structural complexity. The Glycoproteomics group at ISAS therefore employs various state-of-the-art nano-scale chromatographic, mass spectrometric and bioinformatic techniques to deal with current problems of protein biochemistry. This includes e.g. development of dedicated enrichment strategies for glycopeptides and the mass spectrometric based identification of carbohydrate and peptide moiety constituents – both in a qualitative and quantitative fashion. The successful applicant will have a strong background in biochemistry, chemistry or biology, a willingness to be involved in cutting-edge research strategies and will be highly motivated as well as interested in life-science analytical research. We expect self-initiative, responsibility and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. For admission to the S-BLOC program, he/she must hold a Masters,Diploma or equivalent degree in science or engineering that allows direct admission for doctoral studies in Germany. The degree should include an experimental research experience of at least four months. Applications by those awaiting the award of their degree are most welcome.
