Research Opportunities in the MEMS Area Positions Doctoral Graduate Research Assistantships Micro Devices & Micromechanics Lab Department of Mechanical Engineering Old Dominion University Location Norfolk, Virginia Description The Micro Devices & Micromechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Old Dominion University has two openings for doctoral graduate research assistantships to conduct research in the MEMS (Micro-Electrical-Mechanical System) area for biomedical, wireless communications, and a variety of sensing applications. The research will involve - Design and performance characterization of micro devices and their interface circuits - Analytical, numerical, and experimental study of micromechanics and biomechanics Requirement 1) The requirement for the first position: B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering; good at theoretical derivation and writing numerical codes; Familiar with simulation software (COMSOL); and BioMEMS experience is a plus. 2) The requirement for the second position: B.S. and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering; Experience in interface circuit design; Hands-on experience with electrical measurement and instrumentation. The two positions are available immediately. The applications are open until filled. Micro Devices & Micromechanics Laboratory (MDML) Dr. Hao¡¯s research focuses on the development of micro devices for various applications, such as bio/chemical sensing, and inertial sensing, and the analytical and experimental study of micromechanics (e.g., energy loss mechanisms) that is critical for the performance of micro devices. The research employs state-of-the-art design tools, and testing and characterization facilities. To apply, send a resume (including GPAs, GRE scores, and a list of references) to Prof. Hao at: zlhao@odu.edu.
