【求助】请问学物理的朋友们space-filling bearings是什么意思？

在阅读文献时，作者提到利用Herrmann et al. [1990] 提出的space-filling bearings来描述断层泥的结构。原文如下： Using a two-dimensional construction for space-filling bearings (SFB) recently proposed by Herrmann et al. [1990], as an idealized description of the texture of gouge-like material, we study the effect of grain rotations in a shear band. Herrmann, H.J., Mantica, G., & Bessis, D., 1990.
