The results showed that chloroform extract of E. sinensis (CES) at 55 mg/L lead to significant increase in both biomass and IPS concentration from 7.29 ± 0.51 to 10.36 ± 0.39 g/L and 591.1 ± 29.1 to 622.3 ± 24.6 mg/L, respectively. In addition, chloroform extract of E. sinensis at 35 mg/L and water extract of C. molossus at 55 mg/L showed stimulatory effects on EPS production, and their EPS yield significantly enhanced from 365.2 ± 18.7 to 421.8 ± 16.1 mg/L and 365.2 ± 19.1 to 413.4 ± 17.1 mg/L, respectively. Both the extracts can be used as easily available stimulators for the biomass or polysaccharide production by submerged fermentation of G. sinense. ©2009 IEEE.
