Chemoresponsive Polymers Case Western Reserve University researchers developed a new type of polymer that displays chemoresponsive mechanical adaptability. The polymers，described as nanocomposites，can be engineered to change their mechanical properties，such as stiffness and strength，when exposed to water. Today's new fibers and textile materials are coming into being thanks to technologies and concepts from biomimicry，nanotechnology, nonwovens，and composites。Compared to the wave of new fibers created in the latter half of the 20th century, the emerging material technologies of this decade may not be as broad in scope，but specialized solutions are being fashioned to meet specific challenges and solve real problems，In turn，today’s discoveries may lead us in directions as unexpected as today’s textile landscape is from the one at the beginning of the last century. |
