VLC 2006 Call For Papers The International Workshop on Visual Languages and Computing Grand Canyon, USA August 30 - September 1, 2006 http://www.labgis.dmi.unisa.it/vlc06/openconf.php SCOPE AND TOPICS Visual languages have been traditionally used to model human-computer interaction and computer-supported inter-human communication by exploiting graphical notations. The strong influence of visual languages on the art of computing is visible in the variety of computing activities that make extensive use of graphics, ranging from database manipulation, to generation of graphical user interfaces, to end-user programming, to software visualization techniques, etc. As a consequence, the concept of visual computing is used to refer to a computation based on the interaction with and the control of visual objects, either as direct work objects, e.g. 3-D scenes, or as objects representing other objects that are not necessarily visual themselves, e.g., block diagrams. The International Workshop on Visual Languages and Computing will be held in conjunction with the International Conference of Distributed Multimedia Systems in Grand Canyon, USA, August 30 - September 1, 2006. The workshop is intended to be a forum for discussion on latest research carried out in the area of visual languages and computing. Therefore, papers are solicited on emerging issues and challenges in the related research fields. Of special interest are the following topics: Visual Languages and Techniques for Human-Computer Interaction Pictorial Databases Pictorial Information Systems Visual Languages for Geographic Information Systems Software Visualization Data Visualization Applications of Visual Computing Computer Animation Computer-Assisted Visual Arts Theoretical Aspects of Visual Languages Visual Modelling Languages Visual Programming Environments Enabling Technologies for Visual Computing Visual Computing in Computer Supported Cooperative Work End-User and Domain-Specific Languages IMPORTANT DATES March 1, 2006 Paper submission due April 30, 2006 Notification of acceptance May 20, 2006 Final manuscript due May 20, 2006 Early conference registration due CONFERENCE CHAIR Genny Tortora, University of Salerno, Italy PROGRAM CHAIR Gennaro Costagliola, University of Salerno, Italy PROGRAM CO-CHAIRS Monica Sebillo, University of Salerno, Italy Giuliana Vitiello, University of Salerno, Italy PROGRAM COMMITTEE Alfonso F.
