This textbook has evolved from part of the first-year graduate curriculum in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) . This curriculum includes four required semester-long subjects- “Materials at Equilibrium,” “Mechanical Properties of Materials,” “Electrical, Optical, and Magnetic Properties of Materials,” and “Kinetic Processes in Materials.” Together, these subjects introduce the essential building blocks of materials science and engineering at the beginning of graduate work and establish a foundation for more specialized topics. 1 Introduction 2 Irreversible Thermodynamics: Coupled Forces and Fluxes 3 Driving Forces and Fluxes for Diffusion 4 The Diffusion Equation 5 Solutions to the Diffusion Equation 6 Diffusion in Multicomponent Systems 7 Atomic Models for Diffusion 8 Diffusion in Crystals 9 Diffusion along Crystal Imperfections 10 Diffusion in Noncrystalline Materials 11 Motion of Dislocations 12 Motion of Crystalline Surfaces 13 Motion of Crystalline Interfaces 14 Surface Evolution due to Capillary Forces 15 Coarsening due to Capillary Forces 16 Morphological Evolution: Diffusional Creep, and Sintering 17 General Features of Phase Transformations 18 Spinodal and Order-Disorder Transformations 19 Nucleation 20 Growth of Phases in Concentration and Thermal Fields 21 Concurrent Nucleation and Growth 22 Solidification 23 Precipitation 24 Martensitic Transformations http://d.namipan.com/d/7e20e3e8969ea5ccd0e633005fd747d4942a789b3e5f8802 |
