abstract in contemporary cosmology, astrobiology and popular science fields, a series of hypotheses including the kardashev civilization classification model, the global expansion of interstellar civilizations, the dominance of the universe by advanced civilizations, and the perpetual existence of information civilizations free from material constraints have long been mainstream viewpoints. such theories take energy consumption scale as the core criterion for classifying civilization levels, and assume that intelligent civilizations possess unlimited development potential. it is believed that through technological iteration and energy exploitation, civilizations can gradually dominate planets, star systems, galaxies and even the entire universe, ultimately breaking all spatial and morphological restrictions and becoming the rulers of cosmic order. these assumptions are built upon the traditional finite universe model, classical material view and the subjective presupposition that "civilization development has no upper limit", and fail to explore the fundamental essence of all cosmic beings, thus containing fundamental theoretical flaws. this paper adopts the closed-loop system of light ontology proposed in a brief history of the universe: the grand cycle unified theory of the universe as the core research framework, and establishes four fundamental axioms. the universe is an infinite spacetime system without beginning or end. all matter, energy, life, consciousness and information in the world are secondary forms formed when free photons are confined and bound by spatial fields. the laws of light motion, energy conversion and closed-loop constraints are universal and insurmountable ultimate iron laws across the entire universe. the whole universe operates in an eternal cycle dominated by light, including binding, release, restoration and reconstruction. based on the above axioms, this paper conducts systematic demonstrations from five dimensions: the essence of matter, operational logic of energy, spacetime scale of interstellar space, inherent nature of information, and evolutionary destiny of civilizations. the research indicates that all technological progress and energy utilization activities of civilizations essentially only change the aggregation state and motion form of photons within the framework of the laws of light, and cannot break the boundaries of light laws. all microscopic particles such as atoms and neutrons will eventually disintegrate and revert to photons, and the mutual transformation between matter and light is an irreversible cosmic process. the progressive upgrading of civilization levels and the path to conquer the universe in all domains are physically blocked completely. the kardashev civilization classification system is merely an idealized deduction divorced from the fundamental laws of the universe. interstellar voyages and interstellar colonization are restricted by the lifespan of civilizations, light travel time difference, erosion of cosmic media and rule backlash, and are completely impractical. the so-called pure information civilization, whose essence is still the ordered arrangement and directional motion of photons, will inevitably dissolve along with the cycle of light, making immortality and transcendence impossible. this paper further points out that intelligent civilizations are merely transient episodes in the cosmic cycle of light, and can never break free from the closed-loop laws of light. the pursuit of civilization hierarchy, interstellar domination and eternal survival by humans are just temporary subjective obsessions, which carry no eternal significance in the face of the ultimate cosmic cycle. starting from the fundamental laws of the universe, this study comprehensively refutes mainstream hypotheses such as the infinite development of civilizations, the dominance of the universe by interstellar civilizations, and the transcendence of physical forms by information civilizations. it confirms the definitive cosmic conclusion that light is the origin of all beings in the universe and also the insurmountable ultimate boundary for all existing forms. together with previous studies on civilization window periods and light travel time difference in the universe, this paper forms a complete theoretical matrix, further improving the theoretical system of civilization evolution from the perspective of an infinite universe. it provides a brand-new underlying paradigm and demonstration basis for future research in civilization evolution; cosmic cycle; civilization destiny 1. introduction throughout the history of humanity’s stargazing and cosmic exploration, people have always imagined the future forms of civilizations. with the rapid development of modern astronomy, aerospace technology and information technology, extensive deductions have been made regarding the development boundaries of human civilization. among all relevant theories, the civilization classification proposed by kardashev has exerted the most far-reaching influence. since its inception, this theory has been widely cited, extended and interpreted by academic circles, popular science communities and science fiction creations, and has become a general standard for measuring the development level of cosmic civilizations. according to the classic classification standards, a type i civilization (planetary civilization) is capable of fully utilizing all energy on its home planet, completely controlling the planetary ecology, geology and atmospheric environment, and eliminating the threats of natural disasters to civilization survival. a type ii civilization (stellar civilization) requires a civilization to master the total energy of its host star, freely exploit and mobilize celestial resources and energy flows across the entire stellar system, and realize free navigation and activities within the stellar system. a type iii civilization (galactic civilization) refers to a civilization that can dominate the energy and matter of an entire galaxy, with activity scope covering vast star regions spanning tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of light-years. on this basis, subsequent researchers and enthusiasts have further deduced and extended type iv, type v and even higher-level cosmic civilizations, envisioning that civilizations could eventually control cosmic dimensions, rewrite physical laws and achieve absolute domination over the entire universe. along with the civilization classification theory, the hypotheses of infinite expansion of interstellar civilizations and immortality of information civilizations have also gained popularity. the former holds that after breaking the restrictions of the home planet and stellar system, civilizations will continuously migrate and colonize by virtue of breakthroughs in interstellar navigation technology, spreading to all corners of the universe like ripples and realizing the full distribution of civilizations across the cosmos. combined with the development trend of modern information technology, the latter proposes that physical entities have inherent shortcomings. when material civilizations reach their developmental limits, intelligent life can abandon tangible physical bodies and transform consciousness and the entire civilization into pure information forms. this enables civilizations to completely break free from the constraints of material carriers, achieve perpetual survival, and travel freely across the universe without spatial restrictions. all the above mainstream ideas share a core logic: technology can iterate infinitely, capabilities can grow without limit, and civilizations can gradually break away from the constraints of existing rules. this logic is rooted in humanity’s developmental experience on earth. for hundreds of years, humans have continuously expanded living boundaries, improved energy utilization efficiency and transformed the surrounding living environment through technological innovation. people therefore naturally apply the progressive laws of local development to the entire cosmic scale. most researchers fail to delve into fundamental questions: what is the origin of the matter, energy and signals we utilize? does the universe have an ultimate boundary that no existing form can cross? will the inherent developmental instincts of civilizations lead to irreconcilable conflicts with the fundamental laws of the universe? the light ontology system established by a brief history of the universe: the grand cycle unified theory of the universe breaks the cognitive limitations of traditional research. the 13.8-billion-year finite universe model adopted by mainstream academia only describes the evolutionary duration of the local observable universe, rather than the true form of the entire universe. the real universe is an integrated system with infinite time, infinite space and closed-loop cycles, and light is the sole origin driving the operation of the entire cosmos. from microscopic elementary particles to macroscopic stars and galaxies; from inanimate material forms to intelligent life and civilizations with consciousness; and further to abstract data, signals, thinking and information — all of them are essentially manifestations of photons in different bound states. light possesses fixed laws of motion, energy conversion and closed-loop constraints. these eternal iron laws prevail throughout the universe and will never change due to the technological progress of civilizations. the entire universe operates in an endless cycle: photons converge into matter, and matter decomposes back into light. all microscopic particles including atoms, neutrons and protons cannot escape this evolutionary path. it is evident that all civilizations dependent on light are confined within the rule system of light from the moment of their birth. the development, expansion and morphological transformation of civilizations are merely partial adjustments within the closed-loop system of light, and there is no possibility of breaking away from fundamental rules or dominating the universe. human civilization and all extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations are just transient fragments in the grand cosmic cycle. building on previous research on cosmic light travel time difference, dislocation of civilization window periods and the self-destruction destiny of civilizations, this paper further comprehensively refutes popular hypotheses including the kardashev civilization classification, interstellar civilization expansion and the transcendence of information civilizations. it analyzes the logical flaws and practical obstacles of various assumptions from the perspective of fundamental essence, demonstrates the inherent developmental boundaries of civilizations layer by layer, clarifies the real position of civilizations in the universe combined with the complete context of the cosmic light cycle, and finally draws the core conclusion that light is the ultimate apex of the universe and all beings cannot escape the cycle and constraints of light. this paper aims to correct the prevalent cognitive deviations in the field of cosmic civilization research.
