Abstract The traditional systems of astrobiology, deep-space observation and Fermi Paradox research are all built upon three classical frameworks: the finite spacetime model of the Big Bang, the hypothesis of real-time observation via light speed, and the assumption of infinite civilization development. Mainstream studies generally hold that the universe contains a vast number of galaxies and habitable planets, so intelligent civilizations should be widely distributed. They attribute humanity’s failure to discover extraterrestrial civilizations merely to insufficient detection technology and a short observation period. This cognitive paradigm has guided extraterrestrial civilization exploration for nearly a century, yet it cannot reasonably explain the cosmic "Silent Paradox". Based on the closed-loop system of light ontology proposed in A Brief History of the Universe: The Grand Cycle Unified Theory of the Universe, this paper breaks through the limitation of the 13.8-billion-year finite universe model. Taking an infinite spacetime universe, all things originating from light, matter formed by bound photons, and all evolutions governed by the iron laws of light as fundamental axioms, this study systematically reconstructs the underlying logic of cosmic civilization evolution. It thoroughly analyzes four core cosmic mechanisms. First, the observable universe of humanity is essentially a system of delayed images formed over hundreds of millions of years, and all deep-space observation data belong to ancient history with no reference value for the real-time universe. Second, there exists an insurmountable dimensional gap between the million-year timescale of intelligent civilization survival and the hundred-million-year timescale of interstellar information propagation, which means civilizations will die out completely before being observed. Third, intergalactic information transmission is blocked by four absolute barriers including time, space, physics and cognition, making effective transmission and decoding naturally impossible. Fourth, the iron laws of light ontology inevitably trigger the backlash of cosmic rules against advanced civilizations; the more sophisticated a civilization’s technology and the stronger its desire to break constraints, the faster it will self-annihilate. Through multi-dimensional demonstration, this paper draws a subversive conclusion: extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations are not scarce, but inherently incapable of encountering, communicating or coexisting with one another. Humanity’s ongoing extraterrestrial civilization detection projects are not hindered by technical deficiencies, but represent large-scale ineffective exploration resulting from a lack of understanding of the fundamental laws of light, spacetime scales and the ultimate fate of civilizations in the universe. This research thoroughly revises the traditional understanding of the Fermi Paradox, establishes an ultimate theory of civilization evolution adapted to an infinite universe, and provides a brand-new underlying paradigm for related research among future generations. Introduction Since humanity embarked on modern deep-space exploration, the questions of whether extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations exist and why no contact has ever been made have remained the ultimate core issues in cosmology and philosophy. Based on the classical Big Bang model which dates the universe to 13.8 billion years old, mainstream academia analyzes observational data of hundreds of billions of galaxies, trillions of star systems and numerous Earth-like habitable planets within the observable universe, and forms a fixed cognition: the enormous scale of the universe is bound to breed a large number of intelligent civilizations, and the cosmos should be bustling with civilizations across star systems. Driven by this belief, countries around the world have invested substantial resources in projects such as the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), deep-space imaging detection and interstellar signal transmission, aiming to find traces of extraterrestrial civilizations and establish communication across star systems. Nevertheless, a century of exploration has yielded no results. The universe remains utterly silent, with no confirmed extraterrestrial civilization signals, relics or interaction traces ever detected, giving rise to the long-standing and unresolved Fermi Paradox. Traditional academic explanations for this paradox are nothing more than superficial conjectures, including excessive distance, weak signals, self-concealment of civilizations and inadequate detection accuracy. All existing interpretations share a fatal flaw: they are rooted in the conventional finite universe model, classical view of matter and traditional concept of civilization evolution, and never touch upon the true fundamental laws of the universe. The biggest misunderstanding in contemporary cosmic research lies in confusing the observed universe composed of delayed light and images with the real-time universe, and applying the short timescale of human existence to the infinite timescale of the cosmos. The light ontology system put forward in A Brief History of the Universe: The Grand Cycle Unified Theory of the Universe fundamentally subverts the foundation of traditional research. The universe is not a finite product born 13.8 billion years ago, but an endless, infinite spacetime operating in a closed-loop cycle governed by the laws of light. All particles, celestial bodies, life forms, intelligence and civilizations in the universe are secondary products formed when free photons are confined and solidified by spacetime. All cosmic evolutions, rules, births and extinctions are subject to the laws of motion, confinement, energy conversion and closed-loop constraints of light. From the ultimate perspective of light ontology, all puzzles, paradoxes and conjectures about extraterrestrial civilizations can be answered uniquely and definitively. This paper conducts progressive and comprehensive deductions from five core dimensions: the illusory nature of the observable universe, the absolute dimensional gap of spacetime scales, the complete failure of interstellar information transmission, the permanent dislocation of civilization window periods, and the ultimate destiny of civilizations under the closed-loop laws of light. It fully elaborates on why human beings can never observe, encounter or communicate with extraterrestrial civilizations even if they are widespread across the universe. This theory is not a tentative hypothesis, but an ultimate conclusion on cosmic civilization applicable to an infinite universe, intended to be inherited and applied permanently by future scholars. |
