Brief introduction of the three supervisors 三校导师简介

Dr. Jun Xia is an associate professor in the civil engineering department at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. he is interested in ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete material (uhpfrc) and its structural applications. more specifically, his work examines how the micro-material properties, such as fibre percentage and distribution conditions, affect the mechanical properties of uhpfrc materials. the design and optimization of structural components based on material properties are also of interest.
夏骏博士是西交利物浦大学土木工程系的副教授。他的研究方向主要为超高性能纤维增强混凝土(uhpfrc)及其结构应用。具体而言,他的研究工作聚焦于纤维掺量、分布状态等微观材料特性如何影响uhpfrc的力学性能,同时致力于基于材料特性的结构构件设计与优化研究。

Dr. Yun Gao is a tenure-track professor in the civil engineering department at xi’an jiaotong university. his research interests include ultra high performance concrete and manufacturing of low carbon recycling concrete by utilization of construction waste. prof. gao has chaired/participated more than 15 provincial or state-level projects, and authored/coauthored more than 50 papers in renowned journals, such as cement and concrete research, cement and concrete composites, composites part b: engineering, international journal of heat and mass transfer, construction and building materials.  he also serves an editorial member for scientific reports, buildings.
高云博士是西安交通大学土木工程系的特聘研究员(青年拔尖人才b类)。他的研究方向主要为超高性能混凝土以及固废资源化利用。他承担了15项省部级及以上各类科研项目,发表高水平期刊论文50余篇,包括cement and concrete research, cement and concrete composites, composites part b: engineering, international journal of heat and mass transfer, construction and building materials等,担任sci期刊scientific reports, buildings编委。

Dr Paul Shepley is a lecturer in the civil and environmental engineering department at the university of liverpool, uk.  his research spans the behaviour of geotechnical materials, performance of new foundation construction methods, and long-term performance of infrastructure.  of interest to this project, he is most interested in cement-aggregate interactions and developing new machine learning methods to analyse images of concrete samples to improve performance predictions under extreme load conditions.
保罗·谢普利博士现任英国利物浦大学土木与环境工程系讲师。他的研究涵盖岩土材料特性、新型基础施工方法的表现,以及基础设施的长期性能评估。特别值得关注的是,他尤为关注水泥-骨料相互作用,并致力于开发新的机器学习方法,通过对混凝土样本的图像分析来提升极端荷载条件下的性能预测能力。

Dr. Engui Liu is an assistant professor in the department of civil engineering at xi’an jiaotong-liverpool university, specializing in materials science and chemistry of cement-based systems. his research focuses on the performance, durability, sustainability, and functional chemical behaviors of advanced cementitious materials, including carbon-sequestering technologies and materials chemical sensing. he has published in leading materials and environmental science journals and has completed multiple research projects in both local and international contexts. he has supervised multiple phd students and continues to mentor young researchers in the field of materials science.
刘恩贵博士是西交利物浦大学土木工程系助理教授。他从事材料科学研究,关注水泥基材料、碳封存技术以及材料化学传感方向。其研究旨在揭示先进水泥基体系的基本作用机制与性能表现,尤其关注微观结构、物相变化、化学过程及环境因素等共同决定材料的耐久性、可持续性及其功能化行为。

key aspect/summary of research project项目简介

The proposed research project aims to enhance the microscale structure-driven multiscale modeling framework for uhpc materials by incorporating advanced ai-driven image semantic segmentation technology for identifying phase composition based on digital images from microscale examinations. the proposed framework aims to support the development of sustainable uhpc materials, as well as to examine the in-service performance of uhpc materials under normal and hazardous high-temperature environments. the following objectives have been identified:
1. develop ai-driven, deep learning based image semantic segmentation technology to identify and quantify the phase components of uhpc materials under different working conditions.
2. utilize the phase-field method to predict the mechanical properties of uhpc materials and explore the failure mechanism under normal and high temperatures.
3. develop sustainable uhpc material with different hybrid fibres, aiming to provide a material solution to various applications that face fire hazards.

本项目旨在通过引入先进的ai驱动图像语义分割技术,基于微观尺度检测的数字图像识别物相组成,以完善超高性能混凝土(uhpc)材料的微观结构驱动多尺度建模框架。该框架旨在支持可持续uhpc材料的研发,并评估uhpc材料在常温及危险高温环境下的服役性能。具体研究目标如下:
1. 开发基于人工智能(深度学习)的图像语义分割技术,用于识别与量化不同工况下uhpc材料的物相组分。
2. 利用相场法预测uhpc材料的力学性能,并探究其在常温与高温下的破坏机制。
3. 研发掺加不同混杂纤维的可持续uhpc材料,旨在为面临火灾风险的各类工程应用提供材料解决方案。

对项目候选人的其他学术背景及技能要求

参加联合培养博士项目的学生将同时在西交利物浦大学(xjtlu)和利物浦大学(uol)注册。顺利完成该项目后,学生将被授予利物浦大学的博士学位。
在西交利物浦大学攻读博士学位期间,学生需以访问学生身份在西安交通大学(xjtu)开展研究工作。此外,学生还有机会申请为期三至六个月的利物浦大学研究访问。该职位面向所有符合资格的候选人开放,不限国籍。

doctoral students in the joint programme are registered with both xjtlu and the uol. upon successful completion of the programme, the students will be awarded a phd degree from university of liverpool.
during their doctoral studies at xjtlu, students are expected to conduct research at xjtu as visiting students. additionally, students have the opportunity to apply for a three to six-month research visit to uol. this position is open to all qualified candidates irrespective of nationality.
