Research Assistant Job Opening We are looking for multiple Research Assistant (RA) to work on intelligent medical robots and AI for medical scene perception with us in Advanced BioMedical Robotics Lab (https://research.surgery.cuhk.edu.hk/lizhengrobotics/ ) in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Our lab is closely related to Multiscale Medical Robotics Center (https://www.mrc-cuhk.com/), Department of Surgery, and Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences. The candidate is expected to work on one of the following areas: Research Assistant - Medical robotics and instrumentation 【Responsibilities】 1. Participate in R&D projects on medical surgical instruments and surgical robotic systems 2. Conduct 3D modeling, structural design, and engineering drawing of mechanisms and components 3. Contribute to kinematic/dynamic analysis and control algorithm development of robotic systems 4. Assist in prototype development, experimental setup, and data analysis 5. Perform other research-related tasks assigned by the research group 【Requirements】 1. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields 2. Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or UG (NX) 3. Programming experience in C++ and MATLAB 4. Fundamental knowledge of robot kinematics and control 5. Strong engineering implementation skills and good research literacy 6. Prior experience in medical devices or surgical robotics is preferred 7.Publication record in top-tier journals or conferences in medical devices or surgical robotics is preferred Research Assistant – AI for surgical data science and medical robotics 【Responsibilities】 Collaborate with team members to engage in diverse multimodal medical data analysis, algorithm design, and dataset development for one or more areas below: 1. AI-based surgical video analysis (e.g., workflow recognition, tool tracking). 2. Foundation models for medical image processing. 3. LLMs and agent AI in medical image data. 4. Medical dataset development and efficient labeling/annotation strategies. 5. Human-Medical robot interaction. 6. Responsibilities also include drafting high-quality manuscripts for publication in top-tier journals and international conferences, as well as assisting in the overall execution and completion of research projects. 【Requirements】 1. a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bio-engineering, Electronic Engineering, or another discipline related to AI-based surgical data science analysis; 2. a strong technical foundation of deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, and a solid understanding of deep learning theory. 3. prior academic research or engineering experience in at least one relevant field, such as medical image segmentation, detection, surgical workflow recognition, medical foundation models, or human-robot interaction; 4. good command of English writing and communication skills; 5. a high sense of responsibility, and a strong spirit of collaboration. Research Assistant – Medical Robotics System Design 【Responsibilities】 1. Participate in the design, development, and improvement of robotic systems for surgical applications. 2. Design mechanical structures and components, and perform 3D modeling and engineering drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or NX). 3. Assist in robotic hardware integration, including actuators, sensors, and control hardware. 4. Support prototype fabrication, system assembly, testing, and mechanical performance evaluation. 5. Assist in experimental setup, system debugging, technical documentation, and the preparation and execution of clinical trials of the robotic system. 6. Perform other research and development tasks assigned by the research group. 【Requirements】 1. Bachelor’s Degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Automation, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. 2. Strong skills in mechanical design and 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or similar). 3. Experience in mechanism design, robotic systems, or medical device development is preferred. 4. Familiarity with actuators, sensors, and robotic hardware integration. 5. Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication, assembly, and experimental testing. 6. Basic programming skills (e.g., C++, MATLAB, or Python) are a plus. 7. Good problem-solving ability, engineering practice, and teamwork skills.
