The Department of Pharmacognosy (group of Prof. Brigitte Kopp), University of Vienna, Faculty of Life Sciences, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scientist We look for a highly motivated and committed young scientist to join our team that is dedicated to the isolation and identification of natural products. The successful candidate should bring the following qualifications: • PhD degree preferably in Pharmacy, but graduates in Chemistry, Biology or another field strongly related to pharmaceutical biology are also welcome • Postdoc experience from a competitive research laboratory • Extensive experience in natural product chemistry (isolation and structure elucidation, quality assessment of drugs etc.), NMR and other analytical methods for natural product identification • Strong interest in the field of drug discovery and pharmacological characterisation of biologically active natural products • Good German and English communication skills • Experience in teaching (practical training in pharmacognosy/ pharmaceutical biology) • High motivation and commitment, and the capacity to work in a team The position is available from May 2009 for 6 years, with a possible option for extension (tenure track). The oppor¬tunity to obtain “Habilitation” or an equivalent qualification is given. An excellent record of publications in the field of natural product chemistry and demonstrated willingness to co-supervise graduate students are essential. We expect that the successful candidate establishes her/his own focus of research and acquires project funding. We offer well equipped laboratories with up-to date scientific environment, and an excellent working and social atmosphere.
