项目简介:
流体力学研究正在因测量技术与计算能力的最新发展而发生深刻变革。本项目关注:能否利用不断增长的计算资源,采用数据驱动方法(例如基于经典贝叶斯推断的数据同化技术,或近年来发展的深度学习网络),实现对湍流的预测。申请者将可使用最先进的 GPU 计算设施,并与课题组其他成员合作,攻关时间序列预测中最具挑战性的问题,研究成果可广泛应用于风能、减阻以及金融市场等领域。
学生将与团队成员协作,并可使用广东以色列理工学院与以色列 Technion-IIT 的研究平台与设施。欢迎国际学生申请。学费将全额覆盖,并提供丰厚生活补助(每月:汕头 7000/4200 人民币;海法 2167/1410 美元)。学位由以色列理工学院 Technion(世界知名高校之一)授予,广东以色列理工学院保持与 Technion 相同的培养与资格标准。广东以色列理工学院由以色列理工学院发起设立,坐落于风景秀丽的汕头,拥有优美海岸景观,近年来也逐步成为风电产业快速发展的新兴区域。汕头生活成本相对友好,并毗邻广州、深圳、香港等国际化大都市圈。

Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology - PhD/MSc Studentship: Data-Driven Methods to Predict Turbulence from Sparse Observations

Project Description:
The study of fluid mechanics is undergoing a transformation due to recent advancements in measurement techniques and computational power. Can we exploit the increase in computational resources and use data-driven methods, such as classical Bayesian inference-based data assimilation techniques or recently developed deep learning networks? The candidate will have stateof-the-art GPU computational facilities and will work with other group members to tackle the most challenging problems in timeseries forecasting with wide-ranging applications from wind energy to drag reduction and financial markets.
The student will work in collaboration with other team members and have access to research facilities at Guangdong Technion and Technion-IIT, Israel. International students are welcome. The tuition will be fully covered and a generous stipend is offered (per month RMB 7000/4200 in Shantou and $ 2167/1410 in Haifa). The degree is from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, which is among the most reputed universities in the world, and we maintain the same qualification standards at Guangdong Technion. Guangdong Technion is a brainchild of Technion Israel. It is located in the picturesque city of Shantou, which boasts beautiful coastal scenery and has recently emerged as a hub of fast growing wind industry. The city enjoys affordable living and close proximity to international metropolitan hubs of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Selection Criteria:
-Master (for PhD)/Bachelor (for M.Sc.) degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related (essential)
-Strong background in python (essential) and C++ (preferable)
-Strong background in partial differential and ordinary differential equations (essential)
-Strong interest in GPU computations and high-performance computing (desirable)
-Strong interest to work in team, and travel to Israel (essential)
-Good communication skills, good command of English (essential)
-Ability to author scientific reports and co-author scientific publications (essential)
