Postdoctoral Fellow ¨C Epigenetics and Chromatin Biology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The laboratory of Dr. Wonho Kim at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow. Our new lab investigates how the genome is organized in 3D within the nucleus and how this spatial organization influences nuclear functions.

Research topics include:
1. Molecular mechanisms by which the genome is folded within the nucleus.
2. Identification of nuclear factors that regulate genome folding and elucidation of their mechanisms.
3. Impact of genome folding on gene transcription, DNA replication, and DNA damage response.
4. Contributions of dysregulated genome folding to human disease.

To address these questions, we use diverse approaches such as genomics (Hi-C, ChIP-seq), DNA-FISH, biochemical assays, and genetic screening.

The Kim lab is a new and growing group, which allows for close mentorship. Your success is our success, and we emphasize tailored mentoring to support career development.

The Kim lab is supported by NIH R35 (MIRA) funding.

What You¡¯ll Do
•        Lead an independent project on the regulatory mechanisms of cohesin-mediated genome folding (primarily topics 1 and 2 above).
•        Design and execute rigorous experiments; analyze, interpret, and present findings; and prepare manuscripts under supervision.
•        Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
•        Contribute to a supportive lab culture and mentor junior trainees

What You Bring
•        PhD or MD/PhD (or near completion).
•        Strong motivation and excellent communication skills.
•        Research experience in epigenetics, chromatin biology or bioinformatics is preferred but not required (Dr. Kim also transitioned to a new research field during his training).

Why Join Us
•        Direct mentorship from Dr. Kim to help you achieve your career goal.
•        Access to state-of-the-art core facilities at UNC.
•        A collaborative environment that values innovation and scientific rigor.

How to apply
Interested candidates should send the following materials to wonhok@unc.edu
1. Cover letter describing your research experience and interests.
2. CV including contact information for three references.
