Prospective student FAQ

What are the current main research focuses in your group, and are there any ongoing projects that new PhD students might be involved in?
My research will focus on biogeochemical processes in surface sediments and carbonate chemistry in the water column, utilizing both laboratory and field-based approaches. I am also open to exploring other research directions. For instance, the abundance of publicly available data on seawater carbonate chemistry offers excellent opportunities for someone skilled in data processing and numerical modeling. Please note that while I am actively seeking funding, I do not currently have a funded project for this work.

Could you confirm the expected start date for admitted PhD students and the main type of scholarship available?
If you are admitted, you could start at your earliest convenience as a Research Assistant (RA) with a salary of around 8,000 MOP per month. However, please note that the paperwork processing requires time. The scholarship will be a minimum of 12,500 MOP per month, but you will need to pay your own tuition.

Could you please advise on the PhD graduation requirements and the typical duration for completing the program in your department?
To defend your thesis, the main requirement is to have at least one paper published or accepted for publication. The typical program duration is four to five years, though this may vary depending on the student’s individual progress.
