[交流] 伦敦大学学院Benjamin Moss博士招收人工智能、原位光谱、催化相关26年博士生

导师简介

Dr. Benjamin Moss is a Lindemann Fellow at the California Institute of Technology in the High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) Laboratory and an incoming Lecturer in Inorganic Materials Chemistry at University College London. He obtained his PhD in 2020 at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. James Durrant, where he developed transient operando reflectance spectroscopy for photocatalyst nanoparticle systems. After that, Ben joined Prof. Ifan Stephens’ group at Imperial College, focusing on automated operando UV–vis spectroscopy for electrocatalysis. He has published a series of papers in JACS, Nature Chemistry, Nature Reviews Methods Primers, and Nature Catalysis. His current research interest lies in developing high-throughput spectroelectrochemical methods to extract electrocatalyst activity descriptors.

博士项目
PhD Studentship: High-Throughput Operando Spectroscopy for (Photo)Electrocatalyst Discovery
University College London. Start date June-October 2026.

Affordable renewable electricity creates major opportunities for carbon-neutral fuels and chemicals, as progress is now limited by how quickly we can discover electrocatalysts that convert renewable power into chemical products. Unlike drug discovery—where machine-learning (ML) models are driven by vast, standardized datasets—(photo)electrocatalysis lacks large, high-quality experimental data because catalysts form dynamic, disordered nanometre-scale interfaces that must be measured in situ using traditionally slow spectroscopies.

This PhD addresses this bottleneck by developing new automated, high-throughput operando spectroscopic workflows to generate statistically robust structure–function datasets. These tools will enable systematic exploration of catalyst behaviour across materials systems and provide the experimental foundations for data-driven discovery.

The project is ideal for students excited by fundamental science, instrumentation, automation, and digital chemistry. You will work across chemistry, physics, engineering, and data science to develop new experimental capabilities at UCL.
