We are hiring both postdoctoral and PhD candidates! Ben-Gurion University of the Negev | Department of Chemistry & The National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev Location: Beer Sheva | Israel Application deadline: Open Until Filled Project Description Synthetic biology is an emerging discipline that offers powerful tools to control and manipulate fundamental processes in living matter. The Arbely lab develops and applies such tools to modify the genetic code of cultured mammalian cells and bacteria with the aim of studying the role of lysine acylation (e.g., acetylation) in the regulation of metabolism and in cancer development. Thousands of lysine acetylation sites were recently discovered on non-histone proteins, suggesting that acetylation is a widespread and evolutionarily conserved post-translational modification. Specifically, it has been found that most of the enzymes of metabolic processes, including glycolysis, are acetylated, implying that acetylation is a key regulator of cellular metabolism in general and glycolysis in particular. In this project, we wish to expand on this observation with the aim of understanding the role of acetylation in the regulation of glycolysis and in the metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells. The ERC-funded interdisciplinary research project offers the opportunity to do great science in the pioneering synthetic biology field and to combine that with an inclusive, inspiring, and collaborative work atmosphere. Applicants The positions are suited for enthusiastic and passionate applicants with a working knowledge of mammalian cell culture and molecular biology. Experience in antibody expression and purification, and/or high-throughput screening, would be an advantage. Requirements for the position include the completion of a phd (for postdoc application) or a Master’s degree (for phd application) in a relevant life science subject by the appointment start date, and effective oral and written communication skills in English.
