Title: PhD Openings in Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses (Fall 2025) Multiple fully funded PhD positions (RA/TA) are available in the BrainX Research Group at Michigan Technological University. The research focuses on Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses. More details can be found at https://sites.google.com/mtu.edu/hongyu. Dr. Hongyu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Tech. His research interests include Neuromorphic Computing, Neuromorphic Electronic Circuit Design for Artificial Intelligence, Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses, and Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation Systems. Neuromorphic Computing (NC) is an emerging field that aims to implement artificial intelligence by mimicking the human brain, including neurons, synapses, and spiking neural networks. This research integrates hardware design and algorithm development, including application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), neural network algorithms, and edge computing. The group is currently applying NC to the development of Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses, and Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation Systems. The project aims to develop neuromorphic neural prostheses and Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation Systems using integrated circuits and memristors for cognitive disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. We collaborate closely with leading research groups and institutions, including the Intel Neuromorphic Research Lab (Loihi chips), University of Southern California (USC), University College Dublin (UCD), the Institute of Neuroinformatics at ETH Zurich, and UC Davis, focusing on AI applications in medical devices and neural disorders. The ideal candidates are expected to have extensive experience on • Basic understanding of deep learning, neural networks • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) • Background of integrated circuit design • Experiences with EDA tools, including SPICE, Cadence Virtuoso, etc. If interested, please send me your CV, transcript(s), GRE, TOEFL (international applicants only), and sample publications if applicable to the email address: hongyua@mtu.edu Other detailed requirements from the department/college can be found at https://www.mtu.edu/ece/graduate/electrical/ |
