Positions in Dr. Shihui Liu’s Research Group Dr. Liu’s research group in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Tennessee State University is looking for highly motivated individuals to pursue doctoral degrees with specialization in smart building materials and energy harvesting. Financial support will be provided. Funding for travel and participation at conferences will be also provided. The expected starting semester is Spring / Fall 2026. Research in one or more of the following areas is expected for successful candidates. • Advanced Sensing. e.g., Internet of Things (IoTs), smart sensing, structural health monitoring. • Energy harvesting and modeling. e.g., piezoelectric energy harvesting. • Energy Storage Materials. e.g., concrete batteries. Qualification Required: • Hold a master’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields. • Experience with Abaqus is preferred. • Strong interest in smart building materials, smart sensing, energy harvesting, and energy storage. • Experience with research journal publications or presentations is preferred. • Minimum TOEFL Scores: 71 (Internet Based Test), or 6.0 (IELTS Scores), or 95 (Duolingo Score) About TSU and Application Instructions: Tennessee State University is a comprehensive public research university, and an outstanding place to study.
