PhD Position 1: Machine learning-accelerated virtual tests towards improved road safety (In collaboration with Autoliv) https://www.kth.se/lediga-jobb/776878?l=en Virtual testing based on finite element (FE) models is driving the transformation of vehicle assessment and safety research to enhance the protection of road users. However, the FE simulation is notoriously time-expensive, resource-intensive, and exclusively accessible to FE-skilled specialists, hindering the scalability and applicability of virtual testing for automotive assessment and fast-paced traffic safety research. This project will develop a data-driven, machine learning (ML) model of the human head with rapid and reliable brain strain prediction across diverse automotive impacts to accelerate the virtual testing workflows. New knowledge of brain biomechanics relevant to current and future road users will be generated PhD Position 2: Multiscale modeling of traumatic brain injuries: from brains to atoms https://www.kth.se/lediga-jobb/776792?l=en One of the advantages with the finite element method is the possibility to model the anatomy with great detail, thus it is possible to study the kinematics of the head as well as the stresses and strains in the Central Nervous System tissues. Molecular Dynamics simulations will be used to investigate how the protein or membrane is affected by mechanical stress. With a proper understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms following trauma to the human brain, better protective systems such as helmets and candidates for therapeutic drugs against brain injuries can be developed. |
