Postdoctoral Position in Cytokine Therapy at the Gao Lab, UT Southwestern Medical Center (Post date: January 2025) The Gao Lab at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a motivated and talented postdoctoral fellow to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on immune engineering projects in cytokine therapy and contribute to transformative cancer research. Position Overview Title: Postdoctoral Fellow (Cytokine Therapy) Key responsibilities: (1) Protein engineering design to develop novel cytokines for nanoparticle encapsulation; (2) Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluations of cytokine therapies; (3) Investigate the pharmacological and immunological mechanisms underlying cytokine therapies. Qualifications: A doctoral degree (or near completion) in one of the following fields: protein engineering, cytokines (IL-2 or IL-12), immunology, or pharmacology. Strong research skills and a passion for advancing therapeutic innovation. To apply, please send your CV to: Dr. Jinming Gao: jinming.gao@utsouthwestern.edu or Dr. Qiang Feng: qiang.feng@utsouthwestern.edu. Important Note: Please do not include compressed files (e.g., zip files) in email attachments. About the Gao Lab Dr. Jinming Gao and his group study the science of nanotechnology and cancer. Through molecular cooperativity, his group innovate nanotechnology platforms to target cancer hallmarks with the goal to transform patient care. In cancer diagnosis, the Gao Group designed proton transistor nanoparticles that digitize tumor acidotic signals from dysregulated cancer cell metabolism (Warburg effect). Pegsitacianine, one such nanosensor, received Breakthrough Therapy Designation in cytoreductive surgery of peritoneal metastasis. In cancer therapy, Gao Group discovered synthetic polymers for non-canonical activation of stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway with improved tumor and cell selectivity and antitumor immunity over small molecule agonists. A nanoparticle STING agonist has entered first-in-human trials in 2023. The cytokine project is newly funded research area integrating protein and nanoengineering efforts to advance cytokine immunotherapy with strong translational potential. Dr. Gao is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Investigator Award from the National Cancer Institute. UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas is a premiere medical institution leading basic and translational research in the US. Lab website: https://labs.utsouthwestern.edu/gao-lab |
