The microstructure in the image appears to show bainite, but distinguishing between upper bainite and lower bainite requires detailed observation. Here's how to differentiate: Upper Bainite: Forms at higher temperatures (350–550°C in steels). Consists of elongated ferrite laths with carbide precipitates along the lath boundaries. Lower Bainite: Forms at lower temperatures (250–350°C in steels). Shows finer structure than upper bainite, with carbides precipitated inside the ferrite laths. From this image: If the carbide precipitates are aligned along ferrite lath boundaries, it suggests upper bainite. If carbides are distributed inside the ferrite laths, it suggests lower bainite. Since this is a static image, I recommend referring to the sample's transformation temperature and magnification details for precise identification. |
