TitleDevelopment of a Novel Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna and its Array. Primary supervisor:Xiaodong Chen (IEEE/IET Fellow) Pattern reconfigurable antennas (PRA) are beneficial to wireless communications and wireless power transfers. There are various techniques to achieve PRAs, such as employing switching diodes on the radiator or the feeding network of the antenna. However, adopting the diode switches, not only complicates the antenna structure by introducing DC bias circuits, but also increases the nonlinearity and loss of the antenna, leading to a low radiation efficiency. To overcome these mentioned drawbacks, we have proposed a novel antenna pattern reconfigurable technique through controlling the phase of feeding signals from a digital circuit. The proposed PRA consists of multiple feeding ports and its beam can be steered through adjusting the phases on the feed ports. Then, a PRA array based on the proposed antenna element will be designed and developed to demonstrate the performance enhancement.
