Position Openings: Postdoc / PhD / Research Assistant in Next-Generation Neural Probes and Brain Sensors

Location: Advanced Materials and Flexible Electronics Laboratory , Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre, Hong Kong Science Park

The Laboratory of Nanoscale Energy Conversion and Devices and the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre at HKU invite applications for Postdoctoral Fellow, PhD student, and Research Assistant positions. We are pioneering research in next-generation neural probes and flexible, transistor-based brain sensors, merging flexible electronics with cutting-edge brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies. Join us to develop transformative neural probes that combine sub-micron-scale fabrication, advanced data processing via AI, and rigorous in vivo testing.
Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow / PhD Student / Research Assistant
Key Responsibilities
• Drive Project Execution: Lead research initiatives in BCI device development, ensuring high-quality outcomes and timely milestone completion.
• Research Coordination: Manage collaboration with junior researchers, fostering a productive and innovative lab environment.
• Innovation and Problem-Solving: Contribute creative, data-driven insights to advance the lab’s research aims.
• Commercialization: Generate patents, licensing patents to the industry and work with startup companies
Qualifications and Skills
• Academic Background: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroengineering, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or closely related fields from a university ranked in the global top 100.
• Technical Expertise:
o Strong background in microelectronics design and fabrication
o Experience with neural electrophysiological experiments, neural signal processing, or BCI testing is highly desirable.
• Communication & Leadership:
o Fluent in English with strong organizational and communication skills
o Proven leadership abilities and experience managing cross-functional teams
• Professional Attributes: Self-motivated, confident, and capable of thriving under pressure
• Preferred Background: Graduates from C9 League universities or top 20 US universities are especially encouraged to apply.
Work Environment
This role requires on-site presence at the HKU campus and Hong Kong Science Park, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration.
