Host Institution Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Bath, UK PI Dr Haiyan Zheng, Reader in Statistics. https://researchportal.bath.ac.uk/en/persons/haiyan-zheng About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher, with academic training in Statistics, Statistical Programming, Mathematics, or a strongly quantitative discipline. The successful candidate will work with Dr Haiyan Zheng to develop:
A tailored development programme will be provided for the post-holder to develop their knowledge, research and career skills. They will become a member of Dr Zheng's research group that has a long-lasting relationship with clinical trials units in the UK and pharmaceutical companies around the world. This appointment comes with opportunities of visiting The Institute of Cancer Research in London to explore the application of methods newly developed in the projects to real clinical trials. The post-holder will leverage all the benefits to build their own collaboration network. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a strongly quantitative discipline, ideally Statistics, and have excellent programming skills. Knowledge and experience in Bayesian inference, clinical trials, and causal inference will be an advantage. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 36 months. The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath has a long-standing reputation for the development of efficient statistical methods for clinical trials, a topic that has its root in experimental designs. Our department is home to several world-leading statisticians, including Professor Chris Jennison, whose book titled 'Group Sequential Methods with Applications to Clinical Trials' with has been recognised as a standard text on the topic. In the REF2021, our department was rated highly, with 98% of the research outputs ranked as internationally excellent, and one Impact Case Study concerned Improving Clinical Trials by Innovative Statistical Designs. Impact here means novel statistical design and analysis methods have been implemented to run real trials. |

About the City Bath is a city in the ceremonial county of Somerset in England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths. It was founded in the 1st century AD by the Romans who used the natural hot springs as a thermal spa. It became an important centre for the wool industry in the Middle Ages but in the 18th century under the reigns of George l, ll and III it developed into an elegant spa city, famed in literature and art. Bath is the only city in the UK to be a designated World Heritage Site in its entirety. In 1987, the city was listed by UNESCO as a cultural site with outstanding universal value and cultural significance, due to its Roman remains, hot springs, eighteenth-century architecture, eighteenth-century town planning, social setting and landscape setting. In 2021, Bath received an exceptional second UNESCO listing as part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe. |
