美国芝加哥大学生物化学和分子生物学系Jingyi Fei研究组岗位招聘 研究简介: RNA and RNA binding proteins (RBPs) are key players in gene expression and regulation in all living systems, contributing to many essential cellular activities. Malfunctions of RNA and RBPs are often linked to human diseases; and targeted intervention of the functions of RNAs and RBPs is emerging as a therapeutic strategy. Our research aims to uncover molecular mechanisms governing the interaction of RNAs and RBPs, their intracellular distribution, and their interplay with other cellular components, which collectively direct their functions in gene expression and regulation. Our most recent work focuses on the impact of membraneless organelles on gene expression and RNA metabolism. Membraneless organelles are prevalent in eukaryotic cells. RNA localization to these membraneless organelles provides an additional layer in gene expression. Nuclear speckles represent one type of the membraneless organelles in higher eukaryotic cells. They are implicated to play roles in several RNA processing steps, and are associated with various neuronal disorders, cancers and infectious diseases. We are currently interested in understanding the sequence logics determining RNA localization to nuclear speckles, and the functional implication of speckle localization. We use advanced microscopy techniques, chemical biology tools, and biochemistry/cell biology approaches to study these questions. A detailed description and publication list can be found in: https://feilab.uchicago.edu/ PI简介: Dr. Jingyi Fei obtained her Bachelor’s degree in chemical physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, and received her Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University. She was then a postdoctoral fellow at the NSF funded Center for the Physics of Living Cells at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Fei’s research lies at the interface of chemistry, physics and biology, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms by which RNAs and RNA binding proteins mediate gene expression and regulation in both bacterial and eukaryotic systems. Her more recent work is centered on functional impact of membraneless organelles on RNA processing and metabolism. In addition to the fundamental biological questions, her lab is also interested in the development of new labeling, imaging and data analysis methods. Dr. Fei is an awardee of the Searle Scholars the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
