PhD Position (full-time): • Evaluating musculoskeletal changes in populations with chronic disease; • Using conservative intervention strategies for cardiovascular disease and autonomic dysfunctions in populations with chronic disease Contract Length: 3/4 years Institution: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Bio: Dr. Tiev Miller is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Miller obtained his B.Sc. in Sports Medicine and M.Sc. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Louisville, his M.Ed. from Framingham State University, and his PhD from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University where his doctoral work focused on sarcopenia and hemiosteoporosis in people with chronic stroke. His postdoctoral training at the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (Faculty of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, University of British Columbia) focused on the recovery of autonomic functions after spinal cord injury and developing translational strategies to enhance the uptake and use of this evidence by regulatory agencies and healthcare providers involved in the continuum of care. He received provincial and national funding awards through the Rick Hansen Foundation, Michael Smith Health Research BC and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research to study peripheral vascular responses during episodic hypertension resulting from neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction in people with chronic spinal cord injury. His research has produced 32 refereed journal articles in highly rated journals (53.1% = Q1 journals; 25% = Q2 journals) and 85 conference abstracts at local and international proceedings. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with an interest in developing and implementing musculoskeletal and cardiovascular rehabilitation programs in various populations with chronic disease and disability.
