The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is inviting applications for an 18-24-month, full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate / Fellow position in Upconversion Quantum Microscopy.
About the Role
As the Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow in Upconversion Quantum Microscopy, you will work under the supervisor of Prof. Jiajia Zhou. Your main focus will be on developing a new quantum microscopy technique utilizing near-infrared photon pairs as an excitation source and conducting systematic assessments of various upconversion nanomaterials through the quantum microscopy.

About you
As the Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow you will play a key role in producing high-quality scientific research outputs that contribute to solving real-world problems and addressing specific industry needs in the biomedical technology and quantum biosensors fields.
The successful candidate will have the following requirements:
Doctoral qualifications in quantum physics, quantum optics, optics engineering, nanophononics, or optical spectroscopy.
Ability to undertake original research, as evidenced by timely and high-quality outputs.
Comprehensive knowledge and skills in optical engineering.
Hands-on skills in building wide-field, confocal, or super-resolution fluorescence microscopy systems; ability to identify and resolve issues related to optical alignment, electronics, and software.
Understanding and utilising sources of quantum light, such as single-photon sources or entangled photon pairs.
Knowledge of coherence properties in quantum optics
Knowledge of integrating quantum principles into fluorescence microscopy for quantum-enhanced imaging.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Science's organisational structure consists of two schools, two research institutes, administrative services and Technical Services. Comprising of five discipline-based teams and an operations team, Technical Services is Faculty led, providing technical expertise and operational management for Academic Staff and students covering more than 100 teaching and research laboratories and ancillary spaces that includes a store and workshop.
Remuneration and Benefits
Base Salary Range: $89,818 to $109,393 pa (Level A) / $119,475 to $141,405 pa (Level B)
The successful applicant may be appointed at level A or B dependent on their level of expertise and experience as outlined in the essential criteria on the Position Statement.
This role also attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full time, and the appointment will be made on a fixed term basis.
Successful candidates can start between July 2024 and January 2025 for 18- or 24-months period. This is aligned to the timeline of the project and can be discussed at interview.
