Soxhley: A Soxhlet extractor is a piece of laboratory apparatus invented in 1879 by Franz von Soxhlet. It was originally designed for the extraction of a lipid from a solid material. However, a Soxhlet extractor is not limited to the extraction of lipids. Typically, a Soxhlet extraction is only required where the desired compound has only a limited solubility in a solvent, and the impurity is insoluble in that solvent. If the desired compound has a high solubility in a solvent then a simple filtration can be used to separate the compound from the insoluble substance.

索式提取仪：索式提取仪是一种试验装置，由弗朗玆·范·索克斯勒特于1879年发明。索式提取仪起初主要用于从固体物质提取脂肪。然而，索式提取仪的用途并非仅限于此。一般来讲，只有在靶化合物在溶剂中溶解度有限而且杂质也不溶的情况下才会运用索式提取这种方法。假如靶化合物在溶剂中的溶解度高，那么使用简单过滤的方法就能将该化合物与不溶的物质分离。
