| The crude product was purified by crystallization of the (+)-di-p-toluoyl-D-tartaric acid salt from 3A ethanol (ca. 5 mL/g of salt). The salt was further purified by heating a heterogeneous mixture of the crude solid at reflux in 3A ethanol (5 mL/g of salt) for 2 h, cooling to 0 °C, and filtering.This “hot reslurry” procedure gave equivalent purity (greater than 99%) and superior yields (33.4 g, 80% yield) to those of a typical recrystallization process |
